"CABINET of CURIOSITIES". Poughkeepsie Public Library, Boardman Road Branch, May 1- July 30 2025
A large collection of my ongoing series of oil paintings inspired by the specimens in my personal collection.
Just as a child will pick up a stone, shell or dead butterfly to keep in a shoebox, humans throughout are endlessly fascinated by the beauty and mystery of the treasures we discover. We don’t even
have to travel around the world to find exotic specimens, like Darwin did on the BEAGLE.
Geological specimens, shells, insects and fossils can be purchesed online, at shops and museums.
“Art is not what YOU see, but what you make others see”.
Edgar Degas
Working from my personal collection of specimens; found, purchased
and gifted, my intention is to compel the viewer to see the object up close, examine it from a new perspective, see the specimen as a precious object, urging the viewer to respond with curiosity and wonder, the way that scientists and naturalists did hundreds of years ago and continue to do to this day.
NOTE: All artworks are for sale but must remain displayed at the library until July 30.
